Tom Strader, President and founder of Heartland Biotech, has more than 15 years of experience in business development, product development and commercialization of biotechnology products.

He has:

  • world-class formal education in biotechnology from University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • researched, compiled and presented data leading to over US$2M in fund-raising
  • designed, developed and implemented immunoassays all the way from Ab production in goat to bench implementation
  • directed dozens of project teams propose ideas, justify expenditures and develop profitable life science products
  • increased revenue and profitability at every job held
  • researched and written commercialization plan for Phase 2 SBIR grant which was awarded $1.2M in 2006
  • increased flow cytometry reagent product line revenue 500% after 9 month campaign
  • been elected President of Midwest LRIG

Background:


After graduating from the of University of Missouri with a BS in Biology and Chemistry minor, Tom started his career as a protein chemist and mass spectoscopist in R&D at LabOne (now Quest Diagnostics) in Kansas City before moving to Madison , WI to work for Gilson in 1997. At Gilson, Tom directed a team of scientists and engineers from Pfizer-Groton and Thermo-Finnigan to develop the world's first commercially available mass-based LC/MS autopurification system, the NEBULA Autopurification System, before taking to the field and tripling sales in his territory the first year as a sales consultant.  Tom then spearheaded efforts at Promega to bring automated DNA and RNA purification into the new century as Genomics Product Manger.
